EGL Sports Continues Winning Tradition!

When not stuck in the middle of a 16-hour study session (just kidding!), many EGL students blow off a little steam by participating in intramural sports at the University. These sports serve not only as a social activity, but promote teamwork and camradarie among EGL members. Participating in sports such as volleyball, broomball, and inner-tube waterpolo, EGL students have proven to be "leaders and best" in even more arenas on campus.

EGL sports are open to all members of all skill levels. All it takes is an honest effort and a desire to have fun to make your mark on our rich athletic tradition. "Competing for EGL has strengthened the bonds with my classmates and given me so many wonderful memories" says Barbara Fordyce ('08). "I tried waterpolo for the first time and had a blast!" Keep an eye out for signups this fall to share in the storied history of this elite program.

EGL Clinches Broomball Championship

Last season was extra exciting for EGL Broomball as our squad ran the table in the playoffs to earn a Division B intramural championship! After easily taking our regular season opener, EGL fumbled the second game in a close loss. However, winning the final game allowed us to advance to the playoffs nonetheless.

Once in the playoffs, many key EGL players started to shine. Pedro Vaz and MVP Jens Nielsen continued their dominance with many scores and assists throughout the playoffs, while Dave Hamilton's nimble footwork always kept him one step ahead of the competition (when he was out of the penalty box, that is). And goalie Sean Little certainly earned his stripes with a number of saves on those few occasions when the defense did let the ball slip through. "I've never seen more heart in any player on the ice" said coach Samer Saab. With so much talent on the EGL bench, what was billed as a "clash of the titans" against one of the local fraternities for the championship turned out to be just another easy win for EGL. Good job everyone, I can't wait for next season!
